About Worldcon Philharmonic Orchestra
The Worldcon Philharmonic Orchestra comprises some of the UK’s finest musicians to perform specially designed programmes from the film, game and orchestral repertoire at conventions and other major events.
Featuring some of the UK’s finest musicians and soloists, including soprano Sarah Fox, and members of the London Symphony, Royal Philharmonic, and London Philharmonic Orchestras, the 86 piece Worldcon Philharmonic Orchestra performed to thousands of people at the 2014 World Science Fiction Convention (Worldcon) in London’s ExCel Arena. After the team’s earlier successful performance at the 2009 British SciFi convention, the Worldcon commissioned an ambitious orchestral performance of works related to science fiction and fantasy including Star Wars Suite, Holst’s Planets, Star Trek, Dvorak’s ‘Song to the Moon’, themes from Halo and Kingdom Hearts games, and Stravinky’s Firebird Suite. The concert also included a special commission in memoriam for Iain M. Banks by composer Gary Lloyd.
“The huge success of the Worldcon Philharmonic concert was due to the great planning, preparation and delivery by Adam Robinson and Keith Slade. As the lead on the client convention side, I always felt that the project was under control and that our wishes and ideas were fully respected and explored.” Vincent Docherty, Committee Worldcon 2014 & Chair Worldcons 1995 & 2005.
Pulcinella Music Productions exists to collaborate with organisations to realise explosive live performances at conventions and other major events internationally.
The team created the WorldCon Philharmonic using some of the finest musicians and soloists from the UK, and with a full technical production team and library, we can work to push the limits of design and multi-media layers for any event, and collaborate to create stunning world class performances.
“Working with the Worldcon Philharmonic Orchestra and conductor Keith Slade is always a pleasure. The orchestra uses many wonderful musicians who enjoy the chance to play repertoire not often performed by many of the major symphony orchestras” – Martin Gwylim Jones, Concertmaster
“Producer Adam Robinson and Conductor Keith Slade made everything happen so seemingly effortlessly throughout the course of the proceedings that made this large-scale orchestral event a real success and with such easy-going manners and professionalism that everybody involved felt completely calm and assured. It’s truly humbling to be around musical practitioners of this calibre and for my small part in this concert Adam and Keith really made me feel that we could achieve something together and enabled me to compose a piece unfettered, true and fitting for the occasion. The concert itself was a deeply moving and very exciting experience for everyone in the audience” – Gary Lloyd, Composer and friend of Iain M. Banks
